Disabling Heat Pump balance on Nest Thermostat
If you are running high utility bills because Nest is using the Auxiliary heat more (300% more costlier than Heat Pump - if you have an electric coil based auxiliary heat) then you may want to override the Nest settings to minimize use of the Auxiliary heat.
-> Settings - Sense - Heat Pump Balance - off
Now go to (otherwise you will not see that option in equipment)
->setting - Equipment - Heat pump - select "always" and for Auxiliary - Select "1 F" - meaning use Auxiliary heat only when the outside temperature is below 1 F.
This is not a permanent fix - because your heat pump is pretty useless after the outside temperature is below 32 F but at least it will buy you time till you fix your HVAC or configure a dual fuel with lesser cost than the heat coil used in Auxiliary.
Stay warm.
